RULE AND GUIDELINES

Registration Guidelines:

1. Online registration starts on Feb 3, 2024

2. Online registration deadline is Apr 21, 2024 at 11:59 pm

3. The competition online registration fee is $25 per participant per category

a. Fees are subject to a $5 early bird’s discount until Mar 21, 2024

4. All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable

5. No siblings’ discount will be provided

6. Participants can register in more than one category (Memorization, Recitation and Contemplation)

7. Participants cannot participate in more than one level in each category

8. All participants (except Hoffaz) can register only in their age level or higher within each category

9. Quran memorizers (Hoffaz) are only allowed to participate in the following categories:

a. Memorization Category: Hoffaz level only

b. Recitation Category: Quraa’ level only

c. Hadeeth Category: Their age level or higher

10. Full-time Quran teachers and Imams are not allowed to participate in the competition

Examination & Results Guidelines:

1. All exams will be done online on Zoom.

2. Each participant will choose a timeslot on a platform that will be communicated by email. Participants cannot examine in a different time slot unless directed by our administration.

3. All participants are required to turn on their camera and share their screen during their examination.

4. No one is allowed to be with the participant in the same room during the examination.

5. All examinations will be recorded for quality and promotional purposes.

6. Any participant that scores below 65% will be automatically disqualified.

7. Judges are not allowed to examine their relatives or any students they teach regularly.

8. The results of the competition are final and non-negotiable.

9. If a participant wins in more than one category, he/she will receive only the highest in all prizes.

Memorization Category Rules & Guidelines:

1. All participants (except Hoffaz) can register only in their age level or higher.

2. Participants are required to memorize the full Surah/Surahs of their level. Any participant that does not will be disqualified.

3. All Participants will be required to read without looking in the Quran book/Mus-haf.

4. Judges reserve the right to disqualify a participant if he/she is suspected of cheating.

5. Participants will be evaluated on the following:

a. Proficient memorization of the Surah/Surahs of their respective level. Marks can be deducted for mispronunciation or simply stopping in the middle of reading even if the judges do not interfere.

b. Correctly following the rules Tajweed throughout their recitation. This includes saying the Isti’athah and Basmalah in the beginning of the surah or their recitation.

c. Good performance and sound when reciting. Participants’ recitation should be smooth and marks will be awarded for a good performance.

Recitation Category Rules & Guidelines:

1. All participants (except Hoffaz) can register only in their age level or higher.

2. Participants who wish to register in the new level: Beginners 14+ must meet all of the following conditions:

a. Be 14 years or older.

b. Be at a beginners’ level in reading the Qur’an. Participants who are at a higher level are welcome to join their age’s level. They may be disqualified if they register at this level.

3. Participants must read directly from the Qur’an book/Mus-haf.

4. Participants are NOT required to memorize the Surah/Surahs of their level.

5. Judges reserve the right to disqualify a participant if he/she is suspected of cheating.

6. Participants will be evaluated on the following:

2. Participants will be supplied with a booklet of the Hadeeths they are required to memorize. It can also be accessed by CLICKING HERE.

3. The number of Hadeeths required to memorize depends on the level:

a. Level 1: 5 out of 10 Hadeeths

b. Level 2: 7 out of 14 Hadeeths

c. Level 3: 8 out of 16 Hadeeths

4. Participants will be evaluated on the following:

Correct memorization of the Arabic text of the Hadeeths including the Harakat (Vowels). Memorization of its translation only will not be accepted.

b. Memorization of the commentary and summary of the hadeeth in either languages.

c. Bonus points: memorization of the Sanad (sahabah) and Rawis (narrators) are not required but will count as bonus points.

Is the competition open to everyone?

Yes! Male, female; Young, old!

Can I participate in a higher level than my age?

Yes, but not lower

Can I participate in more than one category? (Memorization, Recitation, Hadeeth)?

Yes. Participants can register in as many levels as they wish

When are the examination dates?

April 27: Recitation Examination

May 4: Memorization Examination

May 11: Hadeeth Examination

What time zone will the exam time slots be?

All timings of the competition are in the Eastern Standard time zone (EST).

What platform will the exams be on?

Exams of all 3 categories will be done over Zoom.

Will my exam be recorded?

Yes, it will be. Exams are recorded to ensure that all tests are done fairly, but recordings may also be used for marketing purposes.

My child is young and may need technical support. Am I allowed to be with them during their exam?

You may help them set up before their exam starts. However, no one is allowed to be in the room with them while they are answering questions. If our judges feel that your child needs support, they will ask them to call for help.

Memorization FAQ’s:

Am I allowed to look in the Quran book/Mus-haf during the exam?

No. The memorization category is a test of memorization, so participants are expected to recite the Surahs by heart.

What are the examination criteria for the memorization competition?

Participants will be assessed based on memorization, Tajweed and performance. For more information, please read the “Memorization Category Rules & Guidelines” section.

Will I have to recite the whole Surah?

No. Our judges will be asking participants to recite some sections of the Surah(s). Participants are still expected to memorize the entire Surah(s) of the level they register in.

Recitation FAQ’s:

Am I allowed to look in the Quran book/Mus-haf during the exam?

Yes! The recitation category test the participants’ ability to read the Surah well. Participants will be evaluated on their ability to read well with Tajweed and a good performance.

What are the examination criteria for the recitation competition?

Participants will be assessed based on good, continuous reading, Tajweed and performance.

Will I have to read the whole Surah?

No. Our judges will be asking participants to read some sections of the Surah(s). Participants are still expected to be proficient in reading the entire Surah(s) of the level they register in.

Can my child (13 years old or younger) register for the Beginners Level?

No. The Beginners level is only for adults and teenagers older than 14 years, who are at a beginners’ level of reading.

Can I memorize any Hadeeths I want?

No. Participants can choose Hadeeth only from the booklet provided. You can access it here.

How many Hadeeths do I have to memorize?

The number of Hadeeths required to memorize depends on the level:

• Level 1: 5 out of 10 Hadeeths

• Level 2: 7 out of 14 Hadeeths

• Level 3: 8 out of 16 Hadeeths

Can I memorize the Hadeeths in english?

No. Participants are required to memorize the Arabic text of the Hadeeths. The commentary and summary section can be done in english.
